It is no surprise that this quarantine has viewing hours on steaming platforms dramatically rise. Why not spend the whole day watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine? Or to finally understand why EVERYONE and their mums are talking about Tiger King. So in celebration of being safe and staying home in bed to binge-watch shows, I have created a list of 10 movies and shows that will help you pass the time of quarantine.

The Office

Anyone who knows me knows that the Office is a show that was an ever-present part of my childhood. With 9 seasons and 201 episodes, this fantastic show will keep you entertained for hours (most likely days). With stars such as Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Mindy Kaling and SO MANY MORE.

Wikipedia (lol extremely reliable source. University professors don’t kill me) sums The Office is an American mockumentary sitcom television series that depicts the everyday lives of office employees in the Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. It is a perfect combination of hilarious comedy, a little romance and you can guarantee you will fall in love with all the characters.

Once you’ve watched it, tell me which character you would be and why? I would defiantly be Phyllis.

You can stream The Office on Stan.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

I know, I am so behind the bandwagon on this one!!! But, I think I have found the perfect combination of the Office and Park and Recreation, and that is Brooklyn Nine-Nine. With 8 seasons and 130 episodes, this hilarious show will give you a reason to not leave your bed for days. Focused on the lives of a Brooklyn police apartment, the show is full of inappropriate jokes and fantastic actors including Andy Samberg, Terry Crews, Mellissa, Fumero and even in one episode Adam Sandler pops in.

You can find Brooklyn Nine-Nine on Netflix.

The Jurassic Park and Jurassic World Movies

Now, why wouldn’t you want to start watching the Jurassic Park and World movies from the very start again!! These movies have to be some of my favourite movies ever created. The whole world created around the story is amazing and over the years some amazing actors have appeared on the screen. For anyone who hasn’t heard of these movies (where the heck have you been?!!), I won’t give too much away but imagine a world where essentially a dinosaur park/ research centre is created. A mixture of genetic engineering, human interest and humans need to exploit animals make for an epic saga. I feel as though the original Jurassic Parks are better than the newer ones, but that’s just my opinion. I do recommend watching these in chronological order, to see the world and the storyline grow. There is a total of 10 hours of watching time combined, this is a perfect option to pass time. The Jurassic Park and World Movies can be found on Netflix

Tiger King

Keeping with the animal theme, let's talk about the craziest Netflix documentary I have ever seen. Everyone has been raving about this show and there’s a reason why. I can’t go into much detail because every episode there seems to be a new development to the story. All I can say is people are bat shit crazy sometimes. Murders, tigers, exotic creatures, illegal activities, guns and much more is what you can expect from this show. I honestly at first didn’t think that I would enjoy a show like this, but once I started the first episode I didn’t stop watching for hours. Addictive as hell!!! Honestly watch it and you won’t regret it.

Heartland

If you are looking for the most heart-warming, comforting, perfect on a rainy day tv series to start during quarantine, then Heartland is the one for you. Now, Heartland is another show that is very close to my heart and one that I grew up on. I have very happy memories of scoffing my dinner down by 7:30 when Heartland would be on the TV. I don’t know what to say about this show, its got a farm, horses, a beautiful love story and so many amazing characters. Amy, the main character is a gifted horsewoman and the show is about her finding her way in life and her talent with horses after the death of the mother in episode one (not a spoiler). The series has 13 seasons and 214 episodes so you don’t have to worry about finishing it too quickly.

You can find Heartland on Netflix

The Harry Potter Collection

This one is no surprise, everyone is watching the Harry Potter movies at the moment. Essentially it is a great way to escape the stress of our world at the moment and allow yourself to get swept up in the beautiful magical world. I am a Potterhead and love everything about the books and movies and the entire world as a whole. Again, this is a series I would suggest watching from the first movie and going in chronological order if you haven’t watched them before. Before they go quite dark in the later movies, the first few are beautifully comforting and cosy, perfect to just lay in bed and watch. If you wanted to pass the time, you could even read each book and then watch the movies. There are 8 movies with a total of 19 hours and 39 minutes.

Lady Bird

I have two words on repeat for you, Timothee Chalamet. Timothee Chalamet, Timothee Chalamet and Timothee Chalamet. This should automatically be enough for you to want to watch the movie, but if not there are some other amazing reasons to watch this movie.

Again I will take a quote from the internets most reliable source, Wikipedia. “Set in Sacramento, California, between the fall of 2002 and the summer of 2003, it is a coming-of-age story of a high school senior and her strained relationship with her mother.”

It’s perfect for anyone who is looking for a classic, coming of age movie, plus the chemistry between Timothee Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan is INCREDIBLE !!! Funny, sad, heartfelt and real this movie is perfect for quarantine.

On My Block

This show is hands down some the best television I have seen in a long time. It focuses on the lives of four best friends and their lives growing up in a gang neighbourhood. It tackles both humorous and real-live situations that occur in communities such as there’s. There are strong values of friendship, sacrifice and love but with some of the best humour, I have seen on a show in a while. Each character, though apart of the group has their storyline running throughout the show. The episodes are short, which makes for quick watching, but each episode is amazing. There are 3 seasons and 20 episodes in total, so you’ll finish the series in no time. And don’t worry there are rumours that season 4 is on its way, so you don’t have to panic when you realise that it's all over.

You can find On My Block on Netflix.

The Holiday

I felt as though I had to add a classic in here, with The Holiday not only being a classic around the Christmas holidays but a classic perfect for our current situation. We all wish we could be on a holiday in another country, meeting the loves of our lives right now, don’t we? Anyway, we can live that fantasy through this show. With stars such as Cameron Diaz, Jack Black and Kate Winslet, you don’t have to worry about poor acting. Though I haven’t watched this movie that many times, I do feel like its perfect to add in here if anyone is looking for a movie they can sit on the couch and drink a glass of red wine too. So get out your warm pj's and snuggle up with a glass of red wine and enjoy this classic romantic comedy.

So there are my ten suggestions for movies and tv shows to help you get through quarantine. Stay safe and stay home.

Love Maddy x
